Leisure Outdoor Adventures Fishing Report – August 15, 2021

Leech Lake

Leech Lake has been a challenge the last week given the big wind that has been in play.  Sometimes your fishing, sometimes your hiding!  The jumbo perch, while still sporadic, have shown up more and more throughout the last week. 1/16th oz jig and fathead or a slip bobber and a fathead has been the best in 6-10 feet of water.

Look to weed areas around mounds point to start.  Walleye can still be found shallow with bobbers and leeches but that fall rigging bite along steeper breaks is about ready to start up as well.

Muskie fishing the active fish are relating to shallow (2-8 fow) areas, rocks, weeds and sand. Most productive baits have been bucktails and topwaters. Bite windows have proven to be short so you need to capitalize on those precious strikes!

Lake Vermilion

Lake Vermilion continues to pump out really good walleye fishing.  Right now fish are being caught in 10-16 feet of water along weed edges and rock sand transitions.

We have focused mainly on the West Side of the lake, when fishing on the East side of the lake look to deep transitions in 22-28 feet of water in Big Bay and on the south side of Pine Island.  Pulling rigs with crawlers and minnows has been effective, but also slip bobber fishing on the reefs and also throwing jig raps in the transition areas.

Smallmouth fishing is still decent on the shoreline stretches but the bigger smallies are moving out to the deeper rocks in 12-18 feet of water.  Pitching ned rigs, tubes, and drop shots are all producing fish right now.

Musky fishing is going alright.  Fish aggressive and hit alot of spots throwing bucktails, topwaters, and jerk baits.
