The famous Columbia River. Robert has fished walleye all over the west and Midwest but was bitten by the musky bug when he was a teenager, after catching his first musky on a Northern Wisconsin lake. Since then, Robert has caught muskies in 7 different states and providence's.
Robert and his family now own Agency Bay Lodge on Leech Lake in Walker. Robert, his wife Jen, and two children Corey and Erin live AND fish on Leech Lake year-round. Robert is crazy about musky fishing but also loves to fish for walleyes and smallmouth bass, especially with his kids.
My Favorite Fishing Memory:
It was early September, and we just had a major cold front with NW winds; the kind of weather a musky fisherman waits all season for. My son and I had some morning chores but made it out on the lake around 2PM. Over the next 5 hours we hooked 9 muskies!!! Unfortunately, my son Corey lost all 3 that he hooked. He had now hooked over 10 muskies in his young career but had yet to have one make it to the net. Two days later, after work we made it back out. On the first spot Corey hooked and lost another but 5 minutes later I raised a fish that was charging hard, and I pulled my bait out of the water. I
reset the boat on the spot, and Corey made a cast. The fish ate and made it to the bag; his first musky!! He called his mom, he called his Grandparents, and wanted me to call everyone we knew!
My Favorite Guide Story:
During the 2021 Musky School we had a guest that had been fishing very hard for a few days, but just hadn’t got bit yet. The evening before our 6AM trip together, he caught his new PB at sunset, so when we met in the morning, he greeted me with photos and an amazing story! On our first spot of the morning, he caught another nice musky on his 3rd cast! Two big muskies in 4 casts! He was so excited. Three spots later he raised a 54” caliber fish, the biggest fish he’s ever seen in his life. Later that evening, in the lodge, to hear him tell the stories to our other guests, with his excitement and anticipation for chasing the monster fish, is a memory that I am sure I will never forget.
